    Uh… .22″ …
    Uh… .22″ translates into 5.58mm, in terms of diameter. And it could be akin to the 5.7mm or 4.7mm rounds used in a variety of new weapon systems that are designed specifically with armor-piercing in mind, if your judgment on the round size is correct. Still not sure what kind of ‘pulse rifle’ to call their weapons, though… I’d have to read the book again, but I believe the original MI still relied on a slug-thrower, as well as the aforementioned hand flamers, and even mini-nuke launchers.

    Exactly my point. If it is plasma which could be heated enough on its way out to make damage as in any SciFi
    filck then the piercing capability would not be necessary. Now, you must know better than I do. What has more stopping power a .20 shotgun or a 5.56 mm? Btw the “pulses” look in this series I would dare to say they are more like a .22″ than a 5.56. That’s the reason why I consider them so ridiculous to fight a thing with that size and momentum. Its even more noticeable in both movies.

    They also carry flamethrowers every now and then… though they really should be carrying compact flamers on every trooper, like in the book.
