    Pretty sure the book addresses this… highlighting that the bugs tend to nest underground and that any surface bombardment wouldn’t be able to take out the bulk of them, nor flush them out… and unlike human enemies that would be trapped underground, they can easily break through again, not to mention survive on whatever’s underground in still large enough numbers to be dangerous. Mind, it has been awhile since I’ve read the book…
