    And then when he …
And then when he lands at “Lille” he arrives at the same runway 17. Which is not Lille or Cuneo or St Etienne. To be fair to the BBC they have the race, then film it at a later date that why the flaps are down during the flying shots to allow the helicopter to keep up and why what you are watching does not match the race. To get the race close they had to route the plane the wrong way and also put an extra stop in. But I still think that it’s the best TV program on at the moment.

Yes it is quite far …
Yes it is quite far, lets do the maths, 253 mph =4.2 miles per min but he has to speed up and slow down so lets be generous and call it 4 miles a minute, still very good, and then he needs to put fuel in, lets say 3 mins so every 15 mins he does 48 miles. But then every 4 runs he needs to change the tyres lets say 10 mins. So in 70 mins he travels 192 miles or an average speed of 164 mph which is about 142 knots about the speed of the cessna. If I had the choice? take the car but arrive 2nd

    sure he would have …
sure he would have to refuel every 20 minutes. In fact, i heard that flat out, the tank drains in about 12 minutes. 12 is not very long. However, if you floor the pedal this thing will do 407 km/h. 407 km/h in 12 minutes is quiet far

    Yes you are right …
Yes you are right both planes did fly down IFR, I am not sure which version of the cirrus they used but realistically they would have been about 25 knots quicker. My point is that to make a good program they design the route and methods to be competitive. The Cessna would not have to refuel to get to Lille even with a cameraman aboard. I believe that it is possible to fly VFR in the Alps. Did you notice that he takes off and lands at the same airport and its not any of the ones on the route.

    when ya think about …
when ya think about it tho, both those will cruise 50+knots quicker, since there professional they’re probably IFR rated which would allow them to pass over the alps (I’ve got no clue of the European airspace tbh) whereas james would only be VFR, even then the refuel stop @ st etienne would probly be 40 mins or so? It stacks up.

    Continued. that …
Continued. that would mean no stops required would indicate a clear winner. I like Top Gear it is an amusing intelligent program, but it cannot be called factual. Whenever they have a race I would go with the camera crew, they do not have any trouble keeping up

    to supermarioliam, …
to supermarioliam, I would accept that they design the route to give the car a better chance and when public transport is involved this means using buses, which have a very slow average speed, or trains where making connections means losing time; but when comparing two types of personal transport one which is limited to roads and speeds around 80 mph and the other travelling (normally) in straight lines, cruising at 150 mph with a range on full tanks. continued

    If only this race …
If only this race was real, a flying magazine did a similar race using a Cirrus(single engine piston), Diamond star twin (twin engined piston) and an Aston Martin with professional pilots who were able to halve the time the car took (and used less fuel) The Veryon is a good car, but on public roads cannot be used to its full potenial. If it could run at full speed then it would have to stop every 20 to 30 minutes to refuel. They rig the race and so makes good television.
